What Are The Risks Associated With EMFs and The Telecoms Sector?
Electromagnetic radiation at high frequencies or radio-frequencies (RF) in the broadcast and telecommunications sectors can be harmful to human health. Electromagnetic fields within this frequency range are produced by antenna arrays. They can cause fatigue, heatstroke and even RF burns under certain conditions. RF fields can also interference with the operation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
What Is The Legal Situation With EMF Safety?
Because of the adverse health effects caused by exposure to radio-frequency fields, the UK has introduced new legislation, in the form of The Control of Electromagnetic Fields at Work (CEMFAW) Regulations 2016, that places a responsibility on employers to assess and, if necessary, limit their workers exposure to this electromagnetic fields.
Failure to comply with this new legislation can lead to problems in the workplace and ultimately enforcement action.
Who Can Carry Out These EMF Safety Assessments?
The EMF Directive 2013/35/EU, on which CEMFAW 2016 is based upon, states that electromagnetic radiation assessments, measurements and calculations should be planned and carried out by competent persons at regular intervals. The radiation specialists at EMFcomp Limited can assess your employees’ electromagnetic radiation exposure and achieve compliance with the relevant regulations. This allows your company to continue with its core work in the broadcast or telecoms sector whilst complying with this latest health and safety legislation.
